On 24 March 2021 H.E. Ms. Karntimon Ruksakiati, Ambassador of Thailand to Norway, and Mr. Supachoke Yensuang, Counsellor, attended the annual meeting of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association for Oslo based Ambassadors which was organized digitally this year to update information on the Norwegian Shipping industry in the past year and the outlook for the year 2021.

Norway, the world’s 4th largest shipping nation, has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic crisis, especially in the passenger transport sector. Nonetheless, this crisis has underlined the importance of the shipping industry to the global supply chain since 90 percent of goods, medicines and energy were transported globally by sea vessels due to limitation of air transportation.

In the future, the Norwegian Shipping industry is aiming to promote green shipping with the goal that the entire Norwegian fleets shall be climate neutral by 2050 and promoting other green offshore businesses such as floating offshore wind power generators and carbon capture and storage.
